I was thinking of starting a blog so I did some research into it on the internet and came across a lot of stuff that talks about legal issues and blogging. I’m not planning on blogging about controversial issues, (my blog would focus on posts about books, movies, culture, theater, music etc, and all material would be solely my own opinions) so what legal issues are involved with blogging?
Should I write a copyright disclaimer or are blog disclaimers actually worthless?

Hi,
I’m curious what legal issues you came across. Blogging is pretty much online journaling and there aren’t really any legal issues. The only legal issues would be if you are selling affiliate products in which case you will want to make a disclaimer of something like
"At times I will recommend and link products or services in my blog. I recommend these products with the utmost integrity. I may or may not make commissions off of these products or services I recommend. It is up to the reader to do his or her due diligence when purchasing a product or service".
That is just something off the top of my head, but that is the basic idea. The reason is that the FTC is cracking down on people who my falsely recommend or give false testimonial to products being sold.
For you to blog about just books, movies, your personal life, etc, you aren’t in any real danger. A disclaimer wouldn’t even necessarily be needed but if you want to cover yourself, you can just put some sort of general disclaimer that the posts in your blog represent the opinions of the author and only the author.
In the resource box there is a link to the FTC’s press release from a year ago.
